XPENG switching to Google Maps for overseas vehicles.

At the global launch of the XPENG L03 in Munich, XPENG announced a partnership with Google Maps for vehicles outside China. The L03 is the first XPENG model to ship with that stack for overseas buyers. This page summarises what XPENG has confirmed - and what is still unknown for owners of other models. When it went public: XPENG published the press release on its pressroom on 15 July 2026. The release itself is datelined Munich, 16 July 2026 - the day of the L03 launch event, where the car was launched simultaneously in 65 countries and regions.

What is changing?

XPENG is not simply adding the Google Maps phone app to the car.

According to XPENG, the company will build its own navigation system using the Google Maps Auto SDK - like they have done with TomTom in current overseas models. Drivers keep the familiar XPENG map application on the in-car screen. Interface, map rendering, and interaction design stay XPENG’s. Underneath, Google supplies foundational map technology and services - for example real-time traffic-aware routing, place search, and EV-oriented energy estimation and trip planning.

Owners do not need to download Google Maps separately or mirror a phone for this native experience.

XPENG also states it is the first automaker from APAC (Asia-Pacific) to ship a vehicle with Google Maps Auto SDK integration.

The partnership is not only about turn-by-turn navigation.

XPENG says Google Maps in-vehicle Map Data Services will also support:

  • NGP (Next Generation Pilot) - XPENG’s flagship full-scenario assisted-driving system
  • XPILOT ASSIST - in XPENG’s words, “the foundational assist system”

XPENG frames map data as a prerequisite for taking NGP overseas: the future overseas system is written as NGP (VLA 2.0) in the press release, and XPENG says its global expansion “must rely on map data and navigation maneuvers.” Chinese company news points to delivering more locally suited assisted driving globally from 2027. In other words, better map data is infrastructure for smarter driving features abroad, not only a nicer map app.

Which models?

XPENG’s wording is clear on sequencing, thin on the rest of the lineup:

How we read that on xpeng.guru

  • Confirmed: Overseas L03 users are first in line.
  • Implied in press wording: Other models may follow later (“among the other car models”) - that is not a commitment or a schedule.
  • Unresolved: XPENG has not said whether existing cars (G6, G9, P7+, etc.) get the same stack - via OTA, only on new production, only in selected markets, or at all. That remains open.

From what we know from the official sources today, saying that existing models will (or will not) get Google Maps Auto SDK seems like pure speculation. At Brand Day in Munich (July 2026), XPENG indicated that rollout to other models was still under internal review - and the press text names neither dates nor OTA for the rest of the fleet. We will update this page when XPENG publishes a release note, market notice, or clear store copy for another model.

Which markets?

XPENG splits the world into China and overseas. In China, in-car navigation runs on the domestic stack - historically Amap / AutoNavi (高德), whose 3rd-generation system XPENG announced for mass production in 2021. The 2026 Google Maps partnership is not for China.

Overseas, XPENG’s European navigation partner was first Telenav (announced 2021). Current models run a TomTom-backed stack under XPENG’s own map UI, and the L03 is announced with Google Maps Auto SDK under that same XPENG UI pattern. So this is not “XPENG switches all cars worldwide to Google Maps” - it is another change of map supplier for overseas, starting with one model.

XPENG’s own wording is that the upgrade “will primarily be available in most of the overseas markets” - there is no full country list in the press release. L03 launch coverage and Google-backed map availability may therefore still differ by country; check the local store or importer.

Known features

Two official XPENG YouTube clips show the overseas map UI with Google Maps branding. Treat these as demo confirmations (both videos carry the usual “details may differ by market” disclaimer) - not a store matrix for every trim.
