XPENG announced on 8 September 2026 that its automated production line for humanoid robots is operational. It calls the line the world’s first for advanced general-purpose humanoid robots.
In a video posted the same morning, XPENG says a robot went through the full automated process and then walked off the line unaided.
The line belongs to XPENG Robotics, the unit behind the humanoid robot IRON, which had been on XPENG’s IFA stand in Berlin in the days before the opening.
The money behind the line arrived two weeks earlier. On 24 August XPENG said the robotics business had raised more than 900 million dollars in a funding round that values it at more than 6.3 billion dollars, led by IDG Capital with Tencent and Alibaba among the investors. XPENG keeps control. The plan is mass production of IRON in late 2026, first for XPENG’s own stores and campuses, with customer deliveries in 2027.
