On 10 March 2022 XPENG opened reservations for the P5 in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden at once. It was the brand’s third model and the first that could be reserved in four European countries simultaneously. Six weeks later, on 21 April, the specifications and the expected starting prices followed: 390,000 Danish kroner, 380,000 Norwegian kroner, 550,000 Swedish kronor and 48,000 euro in the Netherlands.
The car was a front-wheel-drive saloon with a 66 kWh battery, up to 465 km WLTP and a CCS2 socket. The drag coefficient was given as 0.223 and it had a heat pump. Driver assistance was XPILOT 2.5 with five radars, twelve ultrasonic sensors and thirteen cameras. The boot took 450 litres plus 70 under the floor.
The pause in the summer of 2022
On 22 June 2022 an XPENG spokesperson told Electrek that supply-chain problems across the industry had made the delivery time previously indicated for the P5 in Europe uncertain, and that the company was therefore suspending new reservations in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden. Customers who had reserved were being contacted about the uncertainty, and XPENG pointed them to the P7 instead. The company said at the same time that the pause did not change its long-term strategy in Europe.
The Danish registrations
Four P5s did reach Danish plates: two in November and December 2021 and two in April 2023. All four entered on individual inspection rather than as new cars on CoC papers. The two from 2023 were registered the same day on consecutive plates; three of the four were deregistered on the same date, 16 July 2024, and the fourth five weeks earlier. A fifth car passed inspection in March 2023 without ever being registered. According to xpeng.guru’s information the cars were dealer cars, used as demonstrators and loan cars, not cars sold to customers. One of them, DE73960, can still be looked up: a 2021 Xpeng P5 AAE1L, first registered on 27 December 2021 and now deregistered.
That is why the P5 does not appear on the registrations page, which counts new cars on CoC papers. In that series the Danish motor register knows four XPENG models up to and including August 2026: the G6, G9, P7 and P7+. The first newly registered XPENG in Denmark was a P7 in July 2023, sixteen months after the reservations in March 2022.
