Volkswagen Anhui launched the ID. UNYX 08 SUV in China on 16 April 2026. It is the first car Volkswagen developed with XPENG. It came in three versions at 229,900-289,900 yuan, according to CnEVPost. At the ECB’s exchange rate on 16 April 2026, that is approximately €28,600-36,100. The starting price was 10,000 yuan below the March pre-sale price.
XPENG’s part of the car
The driver assistance is XPENG’s VLA 2.0 on two Turing chips with 1,500 TOPS in total, and it is standard on every version. It supports navigation-based assistance on motorways and in cities. Volkswagen describes it as Level 2 driver assistance, with the driver responsible for supervising the car.
The car is 5.00 metres long with a 3.03-metre wheelbase and sits on an 800 V platform. The batteries are LFP packs with CATL cells at 82 or 95 kWh, and the range is up to 730 km on China’s CLTC cycle, which gives higher figures than Europe’s WLTP.
A separate electronics project
Alongside the two jointly developed cars, XPENG is working with Volkswagen’s development centre VCTC and CARIAD China on CEA, a new electronic architecture for future Volkswagen models in China. This is a separate project. When ID. UNYX 08 production began, Volkswagen said the first CEA-equipped model would reach the market later in 2026.
Two years of development
The car entered series production at Volkswagen’s plant in Hefei on 13 March, 24 months after the two companies signed the development agreement. Two weeks earlier, XPENG had said that Volkswagen would be the first customer for VLA 2.0 in China.
The car is built for the Chinese market, and Volkswagen has said nothing about selling it in Europe.
