Volkswagen’s second car with XPENG technology goes on pre-sale in China

Volkswagen Anhui opened pre-sales of the ID. UNYX 09 (与众09 in Chinese) on 24 September 2026. The car entered series production the same day. XPENG congratulated Volkswagen on Weibo that evening and called the car a large electric coupé-sedan the two companies developed together. Pre-sale prices run from 199,900 to 249,900 yuan (about €26,000-33,000 at the ECB’s exchange rate on 24 September), according to CnEVPost, and the official launch is planned for late October.

What XPENG brought

The driver assistance runs on XPENG’s VLA 2.0 software and a Turing AI chip with 750 TOPS, according to CnEVPost. XPENG’s platform also supplies 5C fast charging and what XPENG calls an AI chassis. Volkswagen designed the cabin and body and did the chassis tuning.

The car is 5.08 metres long with a 3.03-metre wheelbase. The battery is a 92 kWh LFP pack with CATL cells, and the range is 755 km with rear-wheel drive and 705 km with all-wheel drive. Those are figures from China’s CLTC cycle, which gives higher ranges than Europe’s WLTP.

The second car from the partnership

The ID. UNYX 09 is the second. The first, the ID. UNYX 08 SUV, went on sale in China on 16 April 2026 with two Turing chips and VLA 2.0. The partnership was announced in July 2023. Volkswagen completed its purchase of just under five per cent of XPENG for about 700 million dollars in December. What it means for XPENG’s earnings is in our story on XPENG’s technology for other carmakers.

Both cars are built for the Chinese market, and Volkswagen has said nothing about selling them in Europe.
