In April 2026 Auto Bild named XPENG the brand with the best image among cars with electric drivetrains, on 74.72 per cent of reader votes, and the price-performance winner in the large SUV class on 58.09 per cent. The G9 is the car the class win rests on.
The survey is called Die besten Marken in allen Klassen, ran for the fifteenth time, and had around 50,000 readers assess 52 manufacturers across 14 vehicle classes and 19 image fields on quality, design and price-performance. The results appeared in Auto Bild issue 16/2026 on 16 April.
What the survey measures
It is an image survey. Auto Bild calls it an Imagestudie itself. Readers rate the impression a brand makes on them. It is readers’ impressions, not a measurement of the cars or of what owners experience. First place on price-performance is readers’ impression of that relationship, not a measured one.
With that caveat in place the result is still notable. XPENG could not take part last time because the brand had only just reached Germany. The first time it was eligible, it went straight to first in two categories.
Markus Schrick, head of XPENG’s Central Europe sales region, said he was pleased to go from nothing to first place in a prestigious Auto Bild image survey where the company pushed both established manufacturers and promising newcomers off the top.
The range behind the win
The German range at the time was the G9, G6 and P7+, all on 800 volts with the 5C lithium iron phosphate battery, free of cobalt, manganese and nickel. Charging peaks are given as 525 kW for the G9, 451 kW for the G6 and 446 kW for the P7+, and all three get the same time: 20 to 80 per cent in ten minutes. Three different powers cannot produce the same time, and XPENG does not qualify it.
Consumption is quoted at 18.4 to 20.1 kWh per 100 km for the G9, 17.3 to 18.4 for the G6 and 15.2 to 17.4 for the P7+. The G9 and G6 figures are lower than in the 2024 releases. That is because the models changed, not because the same cars became more efficient; the release does not say so.
The standard equipment is the pitch: XPILOT, a powered tailgate, a heat pump and two-zone climate control with air purification on all of them. The options list is metallic paint and a electrically deployable tow bar. The warranty is up to seven years or 160,000 km, with eight years on the high-voltage components.
