XPENG has named its Robotaxi brand XPENG YOYO. It announced the name on 8 October in a press release and on its official X account, with a blue poster carrying the new logo. The same day XPENG opened sign-ups for its autonomous rides in China, for now by invitation code only, and gave YOYO its own page on the XPENG website.

According to CnEVPost, the Chinese name is intended to evoke relaxed, carefree travel. XPENG chose the English name YOYO because it is short and easy to say in many languages, for when the service eventually reaches other markets.
From staff to the first outside riders
Until now only XPENG’s own employees have ridden, at 1 yuan (about €0.12) a ride, mainly to test payment and service. The sign-ups bring in the first riders from outside the company.
Before pickup, riders can set the cabin temperature and switch on the fragrance system. The car has zero-gravity seats with massage and a large entertainment screen for the rear seats.
The GX-based fleet vehicle
XPENG unveiled its first mass-produced Robotaxi in Guangzhou on 18 May. Built on the GX platform and engineered for L4 autonomous driving, it has four of the company’s Turing chips with a combined computing power of 3,000 TOPS and runs VLA 2.0 without HD maps or LiDAR.
In its August Q2 update, XPENG reported more than 2,000 internal test orders in Guangzhou, validating the full process from booking to the end of a ride. The company’s target is passenger services without a safety driver in 2027.
In August, XPENG also obtained a remote-testing permit for road tests in Guangzhou without a safety operator in the driver’s seat. The permit applies to designated test roads and does not confirm a public passenger service.
Business model
In July, XPENG said local partners would run the service, with the company supplying the vehicles and technology. XPENG plans to earn revenue from hardware and services and take a share of operating revenue. The YOYO name does not confirm a Danish launch.
The development history, fleet vehicle and XPENG’s rollout plans are covered on the Robotaxi page.
