Green NCAP awarded the XPENG G9 five stars and an overall score of 95 percent in its 2023 assessment. XPENG published the result on 12 December.
The test car had rear-wheel drive. It was given 10 out of 10 points for clean air, 9.2 for energy efficiency and 9.4 for greenhouse gases. Green NCAP’s assessment rested on both laboratory tests and driving on the road.
Consumption in the cold
In the laboratory’s standard test Green NCAP measured consumption of about 19 kWh per 100 km. At minus 7 degrees it rose to 32.4 kWh per 100 km. The report highlighted the energy needed for heating as a significant reason for the higher consumption in the cold.
The greenhouse-gas index included emissions from the power supply based on the European electricity mix. That part of the assessment was bounded to energy supply and the car’s operation.
Other results in 2023
XPENG also pointed to the G9’s result in the Norwegian summer edition of El Prix, where a G9 Performance drove about 13 percent further than its stated WLTP figure and reached a peak charging power of 319 kW. The test is described in the story on the G9 and P7 at El Prix 2023.
In October 2023 MSCI had also raised XPENG’s ESG rating from AA to AAA. That was an assessment of the company, while the Green NCAP result applied to the tested G9.
