NAF and the magazine Motor ran the summer edition of El-Prix over two days in Oslo in June 2023 with 32 electric cars. XPENG’s G9 covered 588 km, the P7 557 km. XPENG prints these as 113 per cent and 110.3 per cent of WLTP, meaning both went further than type approval promises. Neither car’s WLTP figure appears in the release.
Two things sharpen the picture. The weather was good and the test ran in optimal summer conditions, as XPENG says itself. And only a third of the 32 cars beat their WLTP number at all.
The third thing sits further down the text. The G9 tested was the four-wheel-drive Performance version with the 3C battery, not the long-range car. Work backwards and 588 km at 113 per cent implies a WLTP figure of roughly 520 km for that version. That number is not in the release; it is division. But it is the point: the 588 km belongs to the fast G9, not the one that goes furthest.
The charging
The records here are clean. The G9 peaked at 319 kW, the highest NAF had measured, and averaged 212 kW, also a first in NAF’s history. NAF calculated that the car adds 200 km of range in 8.4 minutes. The P7 runs on 400 volts, used 13.7 kWh per 100 km and peaked at 189 kW.
The word that changes sign
XPENG calls the result a range deviation rate of 113 per cent, where 113 means 13 per cent further than WLTP. In the Dutch winter edition the following year the company uses the same word for a deviation of 13.1 per cent, and there it means 13.1 per cent short. Same word, opposite sign, a year apart. A deviation figure from XPENG has to be read with its sign.
The G9 and P7 had gone on sale in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark in February that year, and that launch has its own story. Later results from the same test family: the X9 in El Prix 2026 and the G9 winning WK Snelladen. The XPENG G9 page has the car.
