In June 2023 XPENG opened City NGP in Beijing, on the city’s ring roads and expressways. The function was in beta and limited to the G9 Max and P7i Max on Xmart OS 4.3.0 and the P5 in P trim on 3.5.0. City NGP had started in October 2022, and by June 2023 it ran in four cities: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing.

On 29 December an update added 27 more, among them Tianjin, Chengdu, Xi’an, Wuhan and Changsha. That put XNGP in 52 cities, open to every customer on Max trim. The target was 200 cities by early 2024.
Four cities in June, 52 in December, 200 promised. That is a pace worth noting. Two things are missing from it.
The first is that 52 cities means cities where the function can be downloaded, not cities where it works well. Neither release offers a quality measure, not a disengagement rate, not an intervention count.
The second is not in the text but in the picture. XPENG’s own December marketing slide carries a footnote: the functions mentioned apply only to the XPENG models sold in China. That sentence is the whole European angle, and it sits in small type at the bottom of an image.
What Europe got meanwhile
Europe ran the entire period without City NGP. The word in July 2026 was that the system goes global in 2027, in a separate European version. Why the European version cannot simply be the Chinese one is a matter of regulation.
He Xiaopeng said in December that the inflection point for driver assistance arrives when a whole country is covered at low cost and high safety, and that demand would surge over the following five years. He was talking about China.
