The G9 lost 13.1 per cent on a winter day when the average car lost 21.8

NAF and Motor ran El Prix as a winter test in February 2024 with 23 cars, all on the same day and in the same conditions. XPENG’s G9 was again the all-wheel-drive Performance version, which the Dutch release calls the best-selling model in XPENG’s European range.

The G9 charged fastest of all 23: 10 to 80 per cent in 19 minutes with a 291 kW peak on a 93.1 kWh net battery. On range it came fifth, 13.1 per cent below its WLTP figure. The field averaged 21.8 per cent below, and only eight of the 23 cars stayed under 20.

The Danish version of the release is the only one that turns the charging speed into something you can feel: an average of 21 km of range per minute, so 100 km in 4.8 minutes. It is also the only one that puts the car in a situation, namely the annual ski trip. That is the difference between one stop and two on the way to the Alps.

The reason for the winter result is standard equipment: a heat pump and battery preconditioning on the 800-volt platform. NAF writes that all cars were affected by the conditions and very low temperatures to varying degrees. None of the releases gives a temperature.

There are also two percentages sitting in the same paragraph in all three market versions, pointing opposite ways. The 13 per cent from summer 2023 is above WLTP. The 13.1 per cent from winter 2024 is below. They are the same size with opposite signs, and easy to swap.

The X9 at El Prix 2026 is the same test two years on, and the G9 winning WK Snelladen is a third party’s measurement in warm weather. The XPENG G9 page has the car.
