The G6’s battery case takes 50 tonnes, and that counts toward the five stars

The G6 took five stars in Euro NCAP’s 2024 test, announced on 11 September 2024. It was XPENG’s third five-star result for an international model, after the P7 in October 2023 and the G9 in December that year.

The figures behind it are unusually concrete for a press release. Torsional stiffness runs to 41,600 Nm per degree. It comes from integrated front and rear die-casting, where more than 300 parts from a conventional structure are gathered into two cast assemblies, and XPENG puts the improvement at 83 percent against a traditional combustion-engine construction.

The battery case is built in three anti-collision layers, has eight compartments and withstands pressure up to 500 kN, around 50 tonnes. XPILOT’s forward, side and rear collision-prevention systems also counted toward the score.

Which G6 the stars belong to

The car in the test was the G6 on SEPA 2.0 with 800 V, up to 280 kW of charging power and two batteries of 66 and 87.5 kWh, the larger giving up to 570 km WLTP. It has seven airbags. In Germany it started at €43,600.

That is the G6 before the facelift. The New G6 reached Europe during 2025 with a 5C battery, different charging figures and different range, and that version is described on the XPENG G6 page. A Euro NCAP star follows the car that was tested.

The release does not carry the sub-scores. To see how the stars break down across adult occupant, child occupant, vulnerable road users and safety assist, you have to go to Euro NCAP itself. The G9 took the same five stars nine months earlier, and that story explains why the battery figures for that car look different depending on the source.
