XPENG has found a fault in the towbar of a limited number of G6 and G9 and will replace it in a service campaign. The company describes the campaign on an undated page on xpeng.com. FDM, the Danish motoring association, put the Danish figure at 2,665 cars in its overview of 25 September 2026: 2,179 G6 and 486 G9.

What goes wrong
The fault is in the mechanism that locks the towbar in place. Under certain loads the lock can release, and the towbar then turns by about 8 to 10 degrees. A second safety lock keeps it attached to the car. According to FDM, XPENG has recorded 17 cases in Denmark, 13 on the G6 and four on the G9. The issue can occur particularly with bike carriers and towbar-mounted luggage boxes, which put a heavy load on the towbar. FDM knows of one G6 whose towbar came loose while driving with a bike or luggage carrier fitted.
Temporary load limits
XPENG strongly advises against using the towbar before the replacement. For owners who have to use it, XPENG sets temporary limits on the combined weight of carrier and load:
- 75 kg with the centre of gravity less than 30 cm from the tow ball
- 35 kg with it 30 cm to less than 60 cm from the ball
- 10 kg at 60 to 70 cm
- Beyond 70 cm the towbar must not carry a carrier or luggage at all
Towing capacity is unchanged at 1,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked, with a maximum nose weight of 75 kg.
The replacement
XPENG has redesigned the locking mechanism, and every affected car gets the new towbar fitted free of charge at an XPENG retailer. XPENG will contact owners once the parts are available. The campaign page said the new parts would arrive after the summer; at the end of September FDM gave the lead time as about four months. XPENG told FDM that the fault is confined to the towbar and does not affect the rest of the car.
Towing capacity and equipment are on the XPENG G6 page and the XPENG G9 page.
