On 17 November 2023 XPENG opened pre-orders for the X9 in China at prices from RMB 388,000. The car was shown at the Guangzhou motor show as the company’s new flagship on the SEPA 2.0 platform.

The X9 had rear-wheel steering as standard and a stated turning diameter of 10.8 m. The dual-chamber air suspension could change the car’s height by up to 90 mm. XPENG gave the drag coefficient as 0.227.
Room for seven
Between the second and third rows there was a 180 mm centre aisle. The second-row seats could be moved electrically on 1,100 mm rails, and the cabin was 1,315 mm tall. XPENG gave a maximum luggage capacity of 2,554 litres.
The seats had powered headrest and backrest adjustment. XPENG described their comfort as tailored to typical Chinese body shapes. Passengers had a 21.4″ entertainment screen, and the built-in cooling and heating box could be set from 0 to 50 °C.
A Norwegian premiere before type approval
XPENG later announced a European premiere at eCar Expo in Norway in February 2025. At that point the model was awaiting European type approval, and XPENG’s Norwegian presentation used Chinese specifications.
