One thousand European XPENG owners join beta test for major software update

Amsterdam, 6 March 2024 - XPENG will launch a major software update later this month for its P7 and G9 electric models that significantly improves the driving experience. To gather feedback from current customers and make final adjustments, XPENG invited owners to a beta test starting that day; about one thousand European owners had already signed up. Test software was delivered over-the-air; installation takes roughly fifteen minutes depending on connection speed. Based on customer feedback, the software was refined and the final update (4.4.0) rolled out to European owners later that month.

Based on earlier feedback from European customers and journalists, XPENG’s ADAS team developed in-house, in three months, an update that improves driver assistance (ADAS) and overall driving experience on the P7 and G9. As always, XPENG software updates are free and over-the-air - no workshop visit required.

Improvements in this update include:

• Adaptive cruise control (ACC): More comfort on long distances through fewer unwanted slowdowns (e.g. from parked vehicles at the roadside), better deceleration logic, and more natural following distances. When the driver switches from LCC to ACC via steering input, ACC now maintains the set speed.
• Driver monitoring (DSM): Sensitivity is now adjustable on three levels (Low / Normal / High); default is Normal, where it was previously equivalent to today’s High.
• Traffic lights: Status of the traffic light for the current lane is shown at the top of the driver display - helpful when sun glare or limited visibility makes lights hard to see.
• Automatic lane change (ALC): Better detection of when an automatic lane change is possible; improved accuracy and timing of acceleration after changing lane.
• Lane support (LSS): Uses cameras to read road markings and warn when the car approaches lines dangerously. Warning frequency while driving is reduced so the driver only gets the most necessary and legally required alerts. Lane-departure intervention is improved with less harsh steering-wheel vibration when crossing lines.
• Driving logic: Improved timely acceleration and deceleration when the lead vehicle changes lane or other vehicles merge; optimised LCC speed and precision in curves.
• Quieter ADAS: Far fewer functional sounds and visual alerts during ACC, LCC, and ALC use.
• Intelligent high beam (IHB): More accurate detection of oncoming and preceding traffic in the dark; high beam switches off earlier to avoid dazzling other drivers. On motorways and city roads, high beam turns off when oncoming traffic is detected and returns after vehicles pass.
• Bluetooth calls: Improved audio quality with stronger, clearer receive audio in the car.
• Range display: Battery percentage visible again; a bug had temporarily forced km-only display - drivers can again choose remaining distance or remaining percentage.
• Charger search: When navigating to chargers, drivers can filter charging stations by power rating - easier long-trip planning and better battery pre-conditioning for fast charging.
• 360° surround view (AVM): Improved camera view around the car to reduce parking damage risk.
• Defrost: Improved climate defrost so windows clear faster in wet and cold conditions.
• Localization: Revised function names and descriptions in Dutch, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian.
