Reference notes for the XOS Releases hub - what XOS is, how major versions line up, and how China and international releases differ. For published changelogs, use the release-note cards on the hub.
What is XOS?
XOS (XPENG Operating System) is XPENG’s in-car infotainment and vehicle-control software. It covers navigation, climate, voice control, driver-assistance integration, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Modern XOS builds combine AI-assisted features, a touch-first UI, and cloud-connected services.
Version ladder
Major XOS generations and international releases. Minor builds without a release note on xpeng.guru are listed for context only. Green rows mark versions with a published international release note on this site. From 2026, 5.x and 6.x run in parallel - new models in China may ship on 6.x while other cars stay on 5.x until migrated.

Generation history
XOS 1.0 - foundation (2018-2019)
Debuted with the G3 in China: basic infotainment, voice control, and smartphone integration via XPENG’s app and Baidu services. A reduced international build shipped with the G3 in Norway (2020).
XOS 2.0 - connectivity (2019-2020)
Launched with the P7 in China: improved UI, better voice recognition, and OTA updates. Never released as a full international branch.
XOS 3.0 - ADAS integration (2021)
Tied to XPILOT 3.0 in China - adaptive cruise, lane change, and richer navigation. China-only.
XOS 4.0 - Unity cockpit (2022-2024)
Unity-based UI on P5 and G9; international P7 and G9 received 4.x OTAs through 2024. Widgets, app ecosystem, and Spotify on selected markets. See 4.4.0 and 4.4.1 for the main European P7/G9 wave.
XOS 5.0 - Android smart cabin (2024-2026)
Android-based stack on G9, G6, and international P7 - multi-screen layout, improved voice, and faster app development. Early 5.x used separate odd/even minor trains for China vs export; from 5.8 onward numbering aligned more closely across markets (see China vs international). The 5.9.5 wave (June 2026) is the first major aligned odd-minor release for both markets. The 5.x line remains active internationally through 2026 while 6.x rolls out in China.
XOS / AIOS 6.x (from 2026)
XOS 6 / AIOS (Artificial Intelligence Operating System) is XPENG’s next cockpit generation - AI-first UI, large-model voice interaction, and tighter integration between infotainment and driver assistance. XPENG has trademarked “XPENG AIOS”; retail and press may use either AIOS or XOS 6 naming.
In China (2026), 6.x is shipping on newer Turing-platform models first. The rest of the fleet stays on 5.x OTAs until XPENG migrates each line - both generations run in parallel, not as a single global cutover.
International export markets are still on the 5.x train (5.9, 5.11, …). In China, the same aligned 5.x minors apply to cars not yet on 6.x / AIOS. A localised 6.x wave is expected after China; model and region timing will differ from domestic rollouts.
China vs international
XPENG maintains parallel XOS lines: a China domestic build and an international export build (Europe and other export markets). They share architecture but differ in services, rollout pace, and feature set.
- Dual generation (2026+): China runs 5.x and 6.x side by side - Turing-based newcomers launch on 6.x / AIOS while older models continue on 5.x until updated. Export markets remain 5.x-first until international 6.x is released.
- Rollout pace: China typically gets more frequent OTAs; international builds prioritise stability, translation, and regulatory fit.
- Version numbering (XOS 5+): Early 5.x used odd minors (5.1, 5.3, 5.5, 5.7) China-first and even minors (5.2, 5.4, 5.6, 5.8) for international owners. From 5.8 onward, China and export builds shared version numbers more closely - feature sets and rollout timing still differ, but the numbering tracks together. That alignment continues with 5.9 as the first odd minor shipped as a major international release, and is expected to carry through 5.11.x as the last aligned 5.x wave before 6.x.
- Services: China integrates WeChat, Alipay, and local streaming; international builds use TomTom navigation, Spotify where licensed, and GDPR-aligned data handling.
- Beta programmes: International owners can join XPENG’s Pioneer / Early Access programmes via the mobile app for pre-release builds (e.g. 5.2, 5.4, 5.6 waves).
