The G9 took five Euro NCAP stars in 2023, kept at the 2025 facelift review

The G9 took five stars in Euro NCAP’s 2023 test, published on 6 December 2023. Six weeks earlier the P7 had done the same, and the G9 became XPENG’s first SUV with five stars from both Euro NCAP and China’s C-NCAP.

Euro NCAP gave 85 % for adult occupant protection, 85 % for child occupants, 78 % for vulnerable road users and 78 % for safety assist. The full assessment is on Euro NCAP’s own site.

Which G9 was tested

The test car was a left-hand-drive G9 with a kerb weight of 2,210 kg, and Euro NCAP lists the rear-wheel-drive Standard Range as the tested variant. The rating also covers Long Range with rear-wheel drive and Long Range with all-wheel drive.

Euro NCAP’s validity table shows the rating published on 6 December 2023, carried through the annual review on 6 December 2024, and reviewed again at the facelift on 28 August 2025, where the 2023 rating was retained.

The car behind the figures

In the release XPENG described the G9 as an 800 V SiC platform with up to 300 kW of charging power and a 98 kWh battery that charges from 10 % to 80 % in 20 minutes. Later model years have different batteries and different charging power, which the G9 model-year differences page sets apart.

The XPENG G9 page has the version sold today, and what the cars carry in safety and assistance equipment is set out in the guide to driver-assistance hardware.
