XPENG stated 484 changes in total across driver assistance, connections to other devices and cabin functions. Among other things the company highlighted interoperability with Apple’s ecosystem and new options for voice and gesture control. The XNGP expansion to nationwide driver assistance applied to China.

According to XPENG the company had completed five major updates and at least 35 version changes in the 70 days since AI Day on 20 May.

Testing outside China

On 25 April 2024, at the Beijing motor show, XPENG said it had completed testing of Highway NGP in Germany as part of the work to make the technology available internationally.

In July 2026 XPENG announced plans for a global launch of NGP in 2027. The later system was to build on VLA 2.0 and was being adapted for European roads.

XPlanner and the development in China

At AI Day on 20 May 2024 XPENG described improvements in XPlanner, which planned the car’s movements. The company stated 50 percent fewer jerks in the drive, 40 percent fewer improper stops and 60 percent fewer takeovers by the driver as a result of the work.

XPENG gave a training base of more than a billion kilometres of video, alongside more than 6.46 million kilometres of on-road testing and 216 million kilometres in simulation. The company planned to invest RMB 3.5 billion in development and recruit 4,000 employees in 2024, as well as spending RMB 720 million annually on training compute.

At the same time He Xiaopeng set out an ambition to reach an autonomous driving experience equivalent to level 4 in China in 2025.

New equipment for the Chinese charging network

XPENG planned to launch the liquid-cooled S5 charging station in the third quarter of 2024. It was rated at up to 800 kW with a start time of under 13 seconds after plugging in. The maximum current was 800 A and the maximum voltage 1,000 V.

At the end of July XPENG said its own charging network in China covered more than 1,600 stations. At that point the company was present in 30 countries and regions.

The XPENG company page describes the company’s development. The Dutch charging test of the G9 in 2026 shows a later test result for a European car.
