On 2 January 2025 XPENG released XOS 5.4 as a global update, and users started getting notifications the same day. European cars received it as version 5.4.5, and the release note has the features as they arrived here.
What the display now shows
The update changes the range display, aligned to the NEDC standard, to cater to XPENG’s global users. NEDC is the old European test cycle that WLTP replaced, and it returns systematically higher figures. It is not used for new European type approvals.
Where the camera is allowed
The driving recorder stores footage of critical events. Because of regulatory restrictions it was temporarily unavailable in some regions, without XPENG naming which. The feature reached European cars with XOS 5.8. XPENG listed it as available in the European countries except Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland and Austria; the list is under Dashcam in the release note for 5.8.0. Five languages, and AI Guard
After the update XPENG Assistant understood voice control in English, French, German, Cantonese and Thai.
AI Guard gathers the safety functions. Sentry Mode watches and records around an unoccupied car and sends a notification to the app. The sign recognition also reads “no entry” and off-ramp signage.
Screen and operation
Personalized Operating System 2.0 brought a split screen and an XDock the user can arrange. XCOMBO automates recurring actions in the car, XPENG’s own example being the child locks engaging when the car goes into Drive. The charging animation is inspired by the northern lights, and the pace shows the charging speed.
