On 2 January 2025 XPENG released XOS 5.4 as a global update, with users starting to get upgrade notifications the same day. The full feature list is in the release note for XOS 5.4.5, which is the version European cars received. Two things in the press release are not in it.
The first is a sentence about range. The update changes the range display, aligned to NEDC standards, to cater to XPENG’s global users. NEDC is the old European test cycle that WLTP replaced, and it returns systematically higher numbers. It is not used for new European type approval. A range readout aligned to NEDC, inside an update called global, is worth noticing.
The second is a sentence about the driving recorder: due to regulatory restrictions, the feature is temporarily unavailable in some regions. XPENG names neither the regions nor the regulation.
What else is in it
Voice control in English, French, German, Cantonese and Thai. AI Guard, with a sentry mode that watches and records around an unoccupied car and sends notifications to the app, and the driving recorder that stores footage of critical events. Sign recognition that now reads “no entry” and off-ramp signage. A multitasking split screen and an XDock you can arrange yourself. XCOMBO, which automates recurring in-car tasks, XPENG’s own example being child locks engaging when the car goes into Drive. And a charging animation inspired by the northern lights, where the pace shows the charging speed.
A note on the version number
The release talks about the 5.4 line. The version European cars received is 5.4.5, and this is the date the XOS version history uses for it.
