In issue 48/2024, published on 28 November, Auto Bild put the XPENG G6 against the Cupra Tavascan and the Kia EV6. The G6 took the value win and second place overall, five points off the outright result.
The magazine’s own summary, as XPENG relays it: 285 PS, 570 km WLTP, an unfussy design, plenty of space, plenty of equipment and a base price under EUR 50,000. The 285 PS is XPENG’s own 210 kW, which is 285.5 PS; both roundings are defensible.
On space, Auto Bild writes that with up to 1,374 litres the G6 takes more luggage than either the Kia or the Cupra. That is the seats-folded figure, and XPENG’s own European launch release in April 2024 gave only the 571 litres with the seats up.
On charging and efficiency the magazine says the car fills quickly thanks to 280 kW, and uses less energy than its rivals thanks to its lower weight. The seven-year, 160,000 km warranty is named as a difference that counts. The G6 beats both rivals on body, drivetrain and costs, and the magazine also praises payload and towing capacity.
Two things to carry with it
All of the above reaches the reader at two removes. It is XPENG’s summary of a paywalled print test, with XPENG’s own ellipses inside the quotes.
And XPENG writes in the same release that the G9 won the brand’s first comparison test in October at “a well-known German motoring magazine” without naming it. It was auto motor und sport, which is in the German release from October but not here.
Markus Schrick, head of XPENG Germany, said that after the flagship G9’s October win, the G6 SUV coupé is now following suit.
Consumption on the German G6 is given as 17.5 to 17.9 kWh per 100 km WLTP. The Chinese release of 2023 quoted 13.2 kWh per 100 km on CLTC. Two yardsticks, not two cars. The XPENG G6 page has the car today.
