XPENG held AI Day on 6 November 2024, streamed from the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou with He Xiaopeng on stage.
The Kunpeng Super Electric System is 800 volts with silicon carbide, a 5C battery, a hybrid silicon-carbide coaxial drive and a very quiet range extender that XPENG puts at as little as 1 dB. The system switches between pure electric and range-extended running on its own.
XPENG gave one kilometre of range per second and 80 percent in 12 minutes, without stating the starting point of the charging window. XPENG puts the new liquid-cooled S5 station at more than a kilometre a second, and says AI Battery Doctor extends battery life by up to 30 percent.
XPENG gives the range as 430 km on electricity alone and more than 1,400 km combined, with no test cycle stated.
The Turing chip has 40 cores, supports models of up to 30 billion parameters and, in XPENG’s words, delivers the power of three high-performance chips in one. The Canghai platform is, according to the manufacturer, to pave the way for L4 autonomy with markedly higher bandwidth and faster image processing. AIOS puts language models directly in the car, driven by two Turing chips, and XPENG also announced a chip upgrade for existing owners.
The robotaxi in Ultra trim gets Turing chips and Canghai with 3,000 T of processing power, L4-level safety and hardware redundancy. For AEROHT’s flying car the first public flight was planned for November and pre-sales for December. And XPENG showed the IRON robot after five years of development, already in use in the company’s own factories and stores.
XPENG launched the P7+ the next day as the world’s first AI-defined car, in China.
